Let's Raise Some Money

Why Another Fundraising Blog?

August 31st, 2013 by Karen Climer

Does the internet need another blog about fundraising for nonprofits?  Probably not.  Can I offer something that others haven’t already offered?  I like to think so, but I’ll leave that up to you to decide.  So why would I add one more blog to overwhelming number that are already out there?

There are two reasons.  First, because I wake up everyday and think, “It’s another beautiful day.  Let’s raise some money!”  Well, OK, not every day, but most days. Not only do I enjoy fundraising, but I enjoy thinking about fundraising.  I watch what the best nonprofits do and analyze why their fundraising is working or why it isn’t.  Even if it’s working, there is always a way to raise even more money.  Writing a blog forces me to keep abreast of new ideas, and know what’s working and what isn’t.

The second reason I’m starting this blog is that I genuinely enjoy sharing what I know about fundraising. Often fundraisers don’t want to share because they are afraid that you will take that information and use it to raise more money for your organization.  If you raise more, that means there will be less available for my organization.  Give me a break!  Americans are truly generous.  There is plenty of money for everyone.  If a rookie fundraiser were to ask me how to raise money for their organization, I would say the first thing is be sure your organization is offering something of value to the community.  That is my goal for this blog – to offer something of value to the nonprofit community.
